Car Insurance & Compulsory Motor Insurance (Por Ror Bor)
What is Por Ror Bor? (Compulsory Insurance)
• Por Ror Bor is mandatory insurance required by Thai law for all registered vehicles.
• It provides coverage for bodily injury, medical expenses, and death resulting from car accidents — for both drivers and third parties.
• Does NOT cover vehicle damage.
Coverage Examples:
• Medical expenses: up to 30,000 THB per person.
• Death or permanent disability: up to 500,000 THB per person.
• Immediate compensation (no fault needed): 5,000 THB per person.
Voluntary Car Insurance (Type 1, 2+, 2, 3+, 3)
Voluntary car insurance provides additional protection beyond Por Ror Bor and is optional. It helps cover your vehicle, third-party damages, theft, fire, and more — depending on the plan.
This type of insurance is optional and provides extra protection beyond the compulsory insurance (Por Ror Bor). Car owners can choose the coverage level that fits their usage and budget.
Type 1 Insurance
• Most comprehensive coverage: accidents, theft, fire, flood, driver/passenger injuries, and third-party damages.
• Covers accidents with or without another vehicle.
• Highest premium, but provides the best protection.
Type 2+ Insurance
• Covers accidents involving another vehicle, theft, and fire.
• Does not cover accidents without a third party (e.g., hitting a pole or animal).
• Lower premium than Type 1; ideal for careful drivers.
Type 2 Insurance
• Covers theft, fire, and third-party damages.
• Does not cover car accidents at all.
• Suitable for cars that are rarely driven or mostly parked.
Type 3+ Insurance
• Covers accidents involving another vehicle only and third-party damages.
• Does not cover theft or fire.
• Good choice for daily-use vehicles with low risk and limited budget.
Type 3 Insurance
• Covers third-party damages only.
• Does not cover your own vehicle in any case.
• Lowest premium, suitable for older cars or rarely used vehicles.

How to Choose the Right Coverage
• New or high-value car → Choose Type 1 for full protection.
• Frequently driven car, but in safe areas → Type 2+ or 3+ offer good value.
• Older car or rarely used → Type 2 or 3 may be enough.
